OK, so I’ve decided that I am doing a 30 day yoga challenge in June, starting today. I already did a class this morning, so I am off to a flying start! I will do yoga as my Something Every Day, but in addition do running and weights (not every day, I am not crazy). The challenge is simply to do yoga every day for 30 days, every day in June. I am planning on mixing it up a little, with different types of yoga, including Bikram yoga (which I love in winter!).
I want to tell you about this fantastic yoga studio I have found in Melbourne. It’s called Barre Body and you can find their website here. They don’t do just classic yoga, but it is a fusion of yoga, pilates and ballet. In their own words;
Barre Body combines yoga, pilates and ballet barre conditioning to tone your whole body (think long and lean like a ballet dancer), while developing balance, strength and flexibility. Lovely? Yes, quite. The Barre Body studio offers our signature Barre Body, Barre Moves and Barre Core classes as well as a complementary schedule of yoga classes. We have a focus on the physical at our studio; all of our classes are strong and dynamic, aimed at getting your body into the shape you want it to be in.
Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? I get bored easily and I find this type of yoga really keeps me interested and entertained. There is a limit of how many Downward Dogs I can do in a single yoga class before I want to go and hang myself a little bit afterwards. So this is perfect for me. And it is really challenging as well. I am used to lifting heavy weights and squatting deep and heavy, but the tiny ballet conditioning moves really makes you ass burn (it really does, you should try it). If you are in Melbourne, there is two studios, one in Windsor and one in CBD. You get unlimited classes for two weeks for $50 if you are new to Barre Body. Or, if you just want a holiday of pure bliss, they organise Yoga Luxury Retreat Holidays in Fiji (yes please!!).
If you need a kickstart of your new fitness regime, they have Detox or Weight Loss Bootcamps too. You start whenever you want and it’s all tailored to your needs. I haven’t tried this, but it sounds quite good. They also have a DVD if you are not in the Melbourne area, but would like to try at home. You can buy it here. Or, you can check out their online studio here. Do it. Seriously!
Since I am doing this 30 Day Yoga Challenge, does anyone want to keep me company? It doesn’t have to be a yoga challenge, it can be something completely different. Give up dairy for 30 days? Or maybe sugar? Drink at least two litres of water every day for 30 days? Do 30 min physical activity every day? Or eat 5 vegetables every day? You choose and then you tell me in a comment below (SMART goals remember) and then we all keep each other accountable. How does that sound? Let’s do it!
