Why Not Make Some Sweet Potato Chips This Weekend?

I can’t see any reason not to, except it’s delicious and very addictive! You are hereby warned. But on the upside, sweet potato is one of those foods who have got the new surname Superfood. Mr Sweet Potato Superfood to your service. Superhero status. Who decides what’s a superfood and not? I think feta cheese is pretty super and dark chocolate with mint, maybe I should make my own list? I could call it Awesome Food, the food that does not only taste awesome, but it makes you awesome too! Done! List to come (at some point, don’t hold your breath!) soon.


So, why is the sweet potato a cousin of Superman? It’a got plenty of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, potassium and calcium. It tastes very yummy. Super Potato is packed in fibre, which is good for you (did you know that too much fibre can actually make you constipated? True story – but all you hear is; Eat more fibre Eat more fibre! Eat more fibre!). It’s also delicious. Sweet Potatoes are rich in antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties (anti-inflammatory is like the new IT-word, just like antioxidants. When you hear those two words, you just want it, don’t you?!), so it should be good for you. They taste super good. And some sources does say they have Vitamin B6. Superior food is a term I have seen about the sweet potato. It’s ranked highest on the nutritional scale for vegetables. And it tastes super awesome. Do you really need another reason for making some Super Potato Chips this weekend?

All you need is;

Super Awesome Sweet Potato, Salt, Pepper, Olive Oil

You also need an oven or a grill. I put my grill function on on the oven. Chop the potato (do you think the sweet potato gets offended for being called ‘just’ potato? I mean, Superman would probably be a little offended to be called just Man?) into chip-lookalikes, put them in an oven tray, put heaps of pepper, a little salt and some oil. Mix it all together so the oil sort of covers everything. Now put it under the grill. Stir around after about 5 minutes. Cooking time will depend heavily on 3 things; the quality of your grill, how far up or down in the oven you put your tray and how big your chip-lookalikes are. I suggest you watch them closely the first time you make them, so they don’t turn in to charcoal. I don’t mind if they get some darker bits, but you know what they say ‘Smaken er som baken, og den er delt i to‘(Norwegian saying about how not everyone has the same taste – literally it says ‘ Taste is like a butt, and that’s divided in two’. But I think there are more than two types of tastes, so it doesn’t make that much sense) so you need to try if for yourself.


I’ll just make sure I mention again that it’s highly addictive. Use it instead of your potatoes or instead of your potato chips. As a quick snack whenever you want something sweet (dah, it’s not called sweet potato for no reason). And I was just thinking, it would probably be really tasty with a garlic aioli to dip the chips in. Need to try!
