Afternoon Walk In Sitia, Crete.

After having a ten course dinner on Saturday night (or it might actually have been even more than that, when we were full, they were still serving food for another hour and a half) at one of my boyfriend’s aunties and uncle’s house (so much cheese!), we just needed to move after coming back from the beach yesterday (did go for two decent swims too, but wanted something more). So we decided to go uphill and explore the surroundings. There is an old fort we have seen from ‘downtown’ so decided to go there. Let’s just say the streets goes straight up! Very good leg workout and gets your heart rate up super fast! Especially in 30 degree heat (keep hydrated!!). We pretty much walked to the airport (small town!), back down to the port and around the town centre. Beautiful views and I just wanted to share some of them with you.

It really doesn’t take much to keep active when on holidays, and you feel so much better for it. Went back to the gym again this morning for a quick workout. It’s not like you haven’t got time when travelling (unless you are one of those people with a packed itinerary and always are on the go – not my style), and it’s a great way of exploring new places and walking off the cheese from all the dinners (so much cheese – fried, in pies, as dips and more, we have a running joke counting the number of cheeses on the table) you have. It’s also the best way to start the day, instead of sleeping in or just sitting down having breakfast straight away. Work up an appetite and breakfast tastes even better!

But hold on, who am I to tell you to move and look after your health, even when on holidays, You might as well just stop all physical activity, eat and drink as much as you can and pack on. Then when you get back home, see how easy it is to get started again. Should not be a problem at all and those extra kilos will be super easy to lose! I eat, drink and am merry, and I really enjoy it (like going to foreign supermarkets to check out their chocolate range, there is always something new and crazy – such as banana filled milk chocolate, just have to try it!), but I don’t just eat as much as I can, have several ice creams a day and a bottle of vino to every meal, just because I am on holidays. I think that’s just stupid. Enjoy good food and desserts and a beer or three, but don’t be silly about it. It won’t taste better if you eat fast and eat more. You will just feel worse afterwards. My opinion anyway!

OK, time to go order a Freddo from my beach bed and jump in the Mediterranean sea. Or maybe an Iced Tea (first world problem, there is so many of them)! Have a fabulous week, no better day than Monday to get it right, right?? 🙂

I completely agree with you, mind you my holidays tend to be on the active side any way (Narrowboating on the canals with so many lock to do or walking in the hills) but even on weekends away I manage to squeeze in some exercise, this weekend while every one was sleeping late (well 8:30 late anyway) I was up at 6:45 to go for a half hour run…it made me fele much better during the day 🙂
