Great start to the day, a fresh walk along the beach in serious weather (serious, so windy I was worried I would take off a few times) really wakes you up. Thankfully the rain stopped, so I didn’t get too wet either! It would’ve been easy to just jump back in the car and leave (I had a boxing session early-early), but decided I might as well make the most out of it while I am here anyway! And I am glad I did, I feel great after all that fresh air! Almost overdosed!
Who’s well into week 1 of the Push Up Challenge? I did my Day 2, Week 1 yesterday. So far feeling ok, not too challenging just yet, but I know that will come very soon! Keep me posted on how you are going, I would love to know! Tomorrow is my Day 3, so my first week is over (I know, I am a little weird for starting on a Friday – but everything doesn’t need to happen on a Monday, does it?!). Bring on Week 2.
Speaking of challenge, I was told this morning that October is Buy Nothing New Month, so I had a look into it. Buy Nothing New Month is the global movement for collective, conscientious consumption. It’s a little idea, that started in Melbourne (of course) and is spreading to the Netherlands and USA. So I thought I’d help spread the word, as we all probably buy too much these days! It’s a one month challenge to buy nothing new (with the exception of essentials like food, hygiene and medicines) and to take the time out and think “Do I actually need that?” or “Can I get that second hand, borrow it or rent it?”. It’s about thinking where our stuff comes from (finite resources) and where it goes when we’re done (often landfill) and what are the fantastic alternatives out there to extend the life of our ‘stuff’. If you are curious and want to learn more, check out their homepage here. It would probably be a good thing for most of us to do (especially leading up the the crazy shopping season that December has turned into – I am dreading so see Christmas stuff in the shops any time now!!). Check it out!
Make sure you are active today, even if you just have twenty minutes (or even five, everything counts!), because you will feel so much better for it afterwards! Be good to your body, you only have one (and when we are talking about Buy Nothing in October, you should be good to the earth too, because we only have one of that too) 🙂
