Giveaway Monday: Pole Dancing Workout DVDs

Happy Monday peeps. How was your weekend? Mine was fabulous. But I’m actually not here to catch up and chat. I’m here to give away 2 awesome workout DVDs to someone who likes to have a bit of fun while getting toned, losing inches and getting stronger.

Do you find it easier to work out in your own living room than going to the gym? Don’t like going to crowded gyms? Finding it hard to find time to exercise? How about you just do it at home, whenever you have time for how ever long you have? Cos something is better than nothing, right?

Well, today I am giving away 2 workout DVDs to one lucky person. The workouts are based around Pole Dancing (sounds a little daunting doesn’t it? It’s not, it’s just a lot of fun), but you actually don’t need a pole for one of the DVDs. If you do happen to have a pole, the second DVD will come in handy too.  You can have a sneak peak at the workouts here and here.

Australia’s 2012 Pole Dance Champion and international Pole Fitness Instructor Cleo ‘The Hurricane’ is revolutionising fitness & flexibility with a soundtrack that rocks and an attitude and skill to eclipse your existing fitness regime.

Rockin’ Legs n’ Abs is a unique and challenging 1 hour program designed to help improve your flexibility whilst strengthening and toning your legs, abdominals and glutes, creating a strong, powerful and lean body. Cleo’s Rock N’ Pole is a fun and high energy workout combining strength, flexibility and cardio training designed for you to do at home.

All you need to do to win both DVDs is to share your favourite blog post from awesomeashild.com on your Facebook page, like my Facebook page and leave a comment below that it’s done. If you win, I will contact you for your postal address. Too easy.

This is actually a fun workout. And it gets you off the couch and you may even feel sexy afterwards. It’s a win-win. And can I just say; you don’t need to wear whatever they are wearing for your workout… I sure didn’t!

Good luck! Winner will be drawn Monday 25th August 2014.

Why Does Yoga Have To Be Done Upside Down All The Time?

Is it just me, or is 90% of all yoga inspiration pictures on blogs, Instagram, Facebook and every other social media imaginable some sort of a hand stand? On the beach, upside down. In the sunset, upside down. On the street, upside down. On a cliff, upside down. Oh, and in an actual yoga studio, upside down. You get the picture, right? Everywhere you see, there are some amazing, hot yogi doing a super impressive handstand on one or two hands. And we all think that’s what yoga is about, being the best at handstands. Looking as hot and impressive as you can while posing in the sunset. Cos, that’s yoga right?!

I’ve been doing a lot of yoga over the years, Bikram, Power Flow, Yin, Hatha, Vinyasa, Hot and any other fancy names the classes might have. I have also done simple Sun Salutation on my own living room floor. And only very, very rarely do I find myself being upside down. I do sometimes do a headstand. In Crow pose my feet are off the floor. Or my butt is suddenly up in the air while I am stretching my lower back out in a Plow pose. But I am hardly ever balancing on my hands in the sunset (and when I say hardly ever, you can read that as never ever), while smiling to the photographer in a little bikini. Yoga (to me) isn’t about impressing the masses with my amazing skills. Yoga is to just be on the mat, listening to my body and it’s limitations. Challenging my body and my mind into difficult poses, taking it to the next level. Some days my body is ok with stretching the limits a little further, other days I need to take it one step back. And that is ok. Because I don’t go to my mat to impress anyone. Not even to impress myself. I go to my mat to meditate, stretch, strengthen, improve and calm down.

Note; This is not me.

Note; This is not me.( Picture. )

Maybe it is just me? Maybe I am too old fashioned for all this half naked, upside down Fitspiration and Belfies (in case you know what that is, it’s a selfie of your butt!) everywhere. Can’t we be inspiring with our clothes on these days? And with both feet firmly planted on the ground? I read a very inspiring blog post the other day called “Doing Child’s pose for 1.5 hours is still yoga”. And it is. Doing Savasana (Corpse pose, lying flat on your back) for an hour is actually still yoga, unless you fall asleep. Then it’s just called sleep (and that is highly beneficial too).

Rant over. It’s Friday, let’s all enjoy it. And as I like to say TGIF (Thank God I’m Fit!). Do some yoga (or running, walking, push-ups, boxing or just Something) over the weekend. You know you’ll feel better for it. Have a great weekend, beautiful people!

Recipe ~ Coconutty Crunchy Granola

I was trying to get rid of some nuts and seeds from the pantry on Saturday and the end result was way more tasty than I thought it would be. So I figured I should share the yumminess with you. All you need is

2 cups Mixed Nuts (I was getting rid of leftovers, you can mix and match), 2 cups Walnuts (or your faves), 1 cup seeds (I used sunflower seeds), 1 cup Dried Coconut, 1 cup Dried Berries (I used some blueberries and cranberries. You can skip this if you want to keep the fructose low), 1 Egg White, 2 tbsp Water, a little Cinnamon, 1 tsp Vanilla Extract, a pinch of Salt, 3 tbs Coconut oil, 1/3 cup Honey or Rice Malt Sirup (depending on how much fructose you want).

As per usual, this is super easy. Put the nuts in a blender/food processor in smaller batches and whizz quickly just to break them up a little, not to turn them into powder. Do the same with the seeds. Put them all on a big bowl. Now mix everything else in another bowl. Pour the liquid into the nuts and stir until well combined.

Put some baking paper on a tray and pour the mixture on top, spreading it in an even layer. Put it in the oven on approx 150 degrees C. Leave it for 20 minutes before stirring again. In these 20 minutes I suggest you do the following: 10 Squat Jumps, 5 Push Ups, 20 Crunches, 50 Jumping Jack, 20 Walking Lunges. You would have time do do this twice.

Stir the granola and leave it for another 10 minutes. You now have 10 minutes to do 10×50 sec intervals with 10 sec rest. Choose between the following: Running on the spot, Jumping Jacks, Mountain Climbers, Burpees and Squat Jumps. Go!

After these intervals, stir one final time and leave the granola in the oven for another 10 minutes. Relax and stretch (we all need to stretch more!). Take granola out and don’t touch it for the next 10 minutes. You probably have time for a quick shower, unless you are on of those people who spend waaaaay to long in the shower.

Use a spatula to break up the granola into little bits and pieces, let it cool down and put it in your favourite cookie jar (cos you don’t have cookies in it, right?). When you get hungry, enjoy with some greek yoghurt and fresh fruit or berries (look here how pretty it looks). Very filling and super tasty! Enjoy!

Awesome Ashild, xoxo

PS: If you are totally confused, the granola should be in the oven for a total of 40 minutes. You stir after 20 and 30 minutes and then you leave it for 10 minutes after taking it out of the oven.

A Whisper Of Whiskers

It is another sunny/rainy/windy/cloudy/beautiful/wet/cold/nice day in Melbourne. You know you’re in Melbourne when there’s 4 seasons in a day and you can get away with wearing thongs, shorts, wool jumper, sunnies, umbrella, scarf and a hat all in one go. But hey, I didn’t come here to talk about the weather (Norwegians generally talk a lot about weather, cos there’s so much of it over there!). I just stopped by to talk about a little something called Affirmations. Having little positive affirmations around you, that you can see and read every day can actually completely change your mood and help you stay focused and positive. Coffee also does that look:

Coffee

Happy!

Smile

Happier! After the first sip of coffee 🙂

Enough with the coffee, over to affirmations. Or quotes or sentences or whatever tickles your fancy. I found these little boxes with little card, each having one affirmation on them. So cute.

Whisper Whisper2 Whisper3

I like to use quotes to inspire others, to change my own mood, to stay on track towards my goals amongst other things. Quotes can also help to remind you about how blessed you are with where you are in life and the things you have achieved.

Whisper4

I have been going to a few seminars about mindfulness lately and the quote below is exactly what mindfulness is all about. Don’t worry about the past or the future, but living in the moment. Enjoying now. Enjoying the company in front of you instead of worrying about that meeting tomorrow. Enjoying that glass of wine, instead of your waistline (because if you’ve made the decision to have a glass of wine, you’ve made the decision to enjoy it. So stop worrying about how many minutes you will have to be in the stepper tomorrow. Just do it tomorrow without doing it in your mind while drinking wine…). Just be. Now.

Whisper5 Whisper6That’s my words of wisdom today. Be in the moment. Enjoy now, because it will never come back. And you can’t change the past, so why spend time thinking it over. Over and over again. Just enjoy now.
